This is 1930's Hollywood at its best.

William Powell and Myrna Loy (with Asta the dog) played the husband and wife team Nick and Nora Charles so perfectly. The banter between the two is great. Wish they still made films with characters like this.

Brilliantly written, directed and acted, with some very funny moments, and the amazing Asta.

Good old black and white at it's best, and one of the best duo's of all time in William Powell and Myrna Loy.

Don't forget to watch documentary disc, it is very interesting.

  • Delightful

Although I found the first few scenes somewhat stilted, once Myrna Loy and William Powell appeared it felt less of a period piece. Their playfulness and banter, as well as the character of their dog, Aster, are the heart of this film. The mystery and its resolution is satisfyingly constructed but it is the wit, the humour, that holds it together.

  • Perfectly good old times

This was a total surprise. My girlfriend loves this old stuff but I have to say this is absolutely great. Men have still stile and the leading lady is just incredibly sexy - and to think that a naked back and the slightest visibility of nipples through a nighty must have caused quite a stir in 42 makes me smile.

I enjoyed this film when I first saw it about a hundred years ago but now 2 1/2 stars would be the maximum.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoy this series. I introduced her to The Thin Man film, based on the novel by Dashiel Hammett (of Maltese Falcon fame), and she was immediately taken. Nick and Nora Charles present an interesting item, a married couple that have a mature and hilarious relationship with themselves, booze and detective work.

The surrounding characters provide a great backdrop for their antics, and with the constant supply of cocktails, this has to be a class act of the silver screen era.

The detective slant of it is rather good too, with a couple of nice twists in the mix for the more serious. Otherwise, its a great way to while away a rainy afternoon, watching what life was like (or could be like if you're a bit wet :)

    Great films, definitely worth watching.
