All-time best?
By a customer from Dorset, UK. , 23 Apr 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This is an exciting Graham Greene film about post second world war corruption in occupied Germany.
It's many years since I saw it and I remembered it as very good, but on second showing I rate it as perhaps the best film of all.
It can't be flawed. The acting is superb and the choice of actors so right. The locations - wonderful. The photography brilliant.
What a story, and presented with never a dull moment - only the last shot was slow and how right that was - I wanted it to go on forever!
Orsen Welles is great, but Joseph Cotten? - surely a perfect performance.- Was this review helpful to you?

(151)An underwhelming film
By Abby88 (167 reviews) from Bognor Regis , 12 Aug 2012I wanted to enjoy this more than I did. I appreciate that the film did well in the past, but it surprises me that it is still so highly thought of.- Was this review helpful to you?

awesome wells
By angloitalian (34 reviews) , 04 Jun 2012A great dramatic film that tells the story of joseph cotten's trip to vienna on the promise of work from his friend harry lime
however from the outset things arent what they seem and the viewer is lead on a journey of mystery and suspense and shows that movies can be just as effective whether it be from the 40's or this year when the writing is as good as it is in the third man
with a mix of great acting and solid dialogue this is a genuinely great watch and a film I would recommend- Was this review helpful to you?

Enjoyable British Film Noir
By Bassman71 (617 reviews) from Didsbury, England , 26 Apr 2012Writer goes to Vienna to see old friend, friend has died when he arrives, has suspicions, gets help from English army, twists and turns.
Enjoyable British film noir with lots of very good characters, fast dialogue and a fleeting glimpse of the great Orson Welles now and again.
Well shot in the beautiful backdrop of Post WWII Vienna which does a lot to adding to the tension and atmosphere although I thought the music was inappropriate and intrusive despite a very memorable theme.- Was this review helpful to you?

Meh :/
By a customer , 18 Feb 2012And when does it get going? I have had 3 false starts on this - giving up through sheer boredom each time. Now is the 4th attempt - and i have sat through to the bitter end: 1 hour 40 minutes of my life that I will never get back. I wonder if everyone raves because it is shot in black and white therefore it must be good? And what is with the zither music? I don't get it - it doesn't set the mood - it doesn't build the tension - its just the same phrase played over and over and over and...- Was this review helpful to you?
