Oscar-nominated actor Kenneth Branagh and Little Nicky star Rhys Ifans will team up for a new Richard Curtis-penned comedy about two 1960s pirate radio DJs on the high seas. The Boat That Rocked will also be directed by Curtis, whose previous hits include Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually and Notting Hill - which featured Ifans as Hugh Grant's flatmate Spike. The best action movie in a while, this tight, focused Mark Wahlberg vehicle puts a canny post-9/11 spin on a Rambo type scenario. Actually, make that post-WMD/Iraq, because the film is steeped in mistrust of the powerful elite who (it suggests) really pull the strings in the US of A. L'Enfant wins top prize at Cannes Film Festival

The Belgian film L'Enfant has won the prestigious Palme d'Or award at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The film was directed by brothers Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne, who also won the award in 1999 for their film Rosetta. Million Dollar Baby and Oscar-award winners Morgan Freeman and Hilary Swank presented them with their awards. It's ironic, given that this is a film about the difficulties of making yourself understood and those forces that keep people apart, but over the past couple of months (ever since seeing the film at the Toronto Film Festival in September) I've had more arguments about Babel than anything else.
