The Musketeers, 16th Century defenders of the French monarch, have just been disbanded by the duplicitous Cardinal Richelieu. Now only three of them remain--Athos, Prothos and Aramis--to stand in the way of Richelieu who's plotting to overthrow the young King and assume the throne. Barely post-pubescent, His Royal Highness is extremely vulnerable to Richelieu's elaborate political machinations; but fortunately, D'Artagnan, a young man longing to join forces with the Musketeers, happens along. D'Artagnan's worldly idealism and reverence for the Musketeers infuses the trio with a renewed sense of importance as they unite one for all and all for one. The classic adventure tale updated, with soundtrack music by Sting, Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart.

A half-hearted romp by a group of actors to whom swashbuckling is a lost art, this is simply Young Guns with swords, no more than a feeble adventure with little sense of period.
"...As faithful rendition as any....Fidelity here lies not so much in keeping to the plot of the novel as in preserving its spirit, in staging the swordfights with grace and elan..."
Another example of Disneys ability to capture something in a film which makes it stand out from the rest. As always it features a strong supoorting cast including Sutherland (24)and Sheen (Hot Shots) as well as the always excellent Tim Curry keeping the pace going; it also doesn't fail to add those crucial one liners that just make this film all it is. A family movie that will keep you in awe.
A great deception would summarize my evaluation of this movie.
Very simplified plot of one of the best action novel there is. Alexandre Dumas writes wounderfully, humorfully and suspensefully. This movie does not even reach the toe of the novel which is so funny, well written and realistic. Here the movie changes a very good story into one that tries to repeat what has been seen over and over again. Portos is even transformed into a Pirate ! They even have missed a wonderful vilain: Milady the Winter. Characters were missing the original depht. They have turned down the love between Buckingham and the Queen as the source of all problems. It is stupidly binary like too many american made movies. They had to make a simple plot and a happy ending and emptying the sense. Are the americans really incapable to apprieciate a complex political plot ?
Stars turned out this week for the premiere of a forthcoming comedy entitled 2 Days in Paris, which tells the story of a couple desperate to rekindle their romance in the European city. Both of the main characters, played by Julie Delpy and Adam Goldberg, took to the red carpet in Los Angeles and celebrated the movie's debut, while cinema-lovers in the UK can see it from August 31st when it is released here. French actress Julie Delpy also directed 2 Days in Paris, following her work in films... Read more
