  • Beautiful, emotional, sexual and innocent!

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Despite being sexually charged, this film is innocent, tender and magical.

Firmly grounded in Spanish literary and dramatic tradition in which high and intense emotion blurs the line between reality and aspirations, this is a masterpiece of poetry on film!

Furthermore, it makes you think twice about how children see us and our quirks.

    Not to miss!

  • Wonderful, funny and moving. Should NOT be an 18!

This film is really lovely - a great, imaginative, view from a little boy of issues important to him (and thence to us). Watch it! The 18 certificate on the film is just another indication of this country's weird view of life - gory, realistic violence merits a 15, but a film about t*ts, breasts and breastfeeding gets an 18. Incidentally, this review was rejected until I put the * in that word!

  • Not quite as ridiculous as you would expect

Back in the early 90's my otherwise painful adolescence was periodically brightened up by the appearance of Eurotrash on Channel 4 late on a Friday evening. I remember watching a review of this ,ahem, tittilating film complete with a sarcastic voiceover and even more sarcastic review by the perpetually arch-eyebrowed Anton de Caunes. I longed for the day when I would eventually pass for 18 years old so I could rent this video.

Many years later I ended up watching this and found this film to be far more interesting and much less tawdry than I expected (hoped). As with all of Lunas's output, there is far more sustance lurking beneath the veneer of bawdyness than you would initially believe. Worth a watch, then check out Jamon Jamon and Goldenballs while you are at it.

Some silly moments but on the whole, enjoyable and easy watching. I wondered how it would end but I think they got it just right.

Beautifully acted, very empathetic to young boy with new baby brother.

Very funny in parts and touchingly sad in others.

If you're learning Spanish I would highly recommend.

I used to go to Richmond Film Theatre alot years ago as they would show lots of Foreign films with subtitles. They ranged from comedy to drama, but overall were really good, and I would have been happy to have seen this one there. Very good, very entertaining.
