    [Highly rated reviewer]

One of the best disaster movies with an amazing cast. Steve McQueen and Paul Newman are electric with supurb all star support. Very entertaining, well acted and brilliant effects. A must see for any fan of big budget disaster flicks

  • hurrah for disaster movies!

Part of the fun of this film is groaning at the dreadful decor and costumes - nothing dates so fast as the relatively recent past. Yet for all its cliche and stock characters (the devoted old couple, the cute kids, the crook, the nasty one, the selfless heroine yadah yadah yadah) there are still some genuinely scary moments in this, one of the first of the really big disaster movies and still, some would say, one of the best. Two hours just fly by and, unlike many recent additions to the genre, there is no mawkishly sentimental ending. Nobody is going to win any awards for acting, by modern standards, but it was a blockbuster in its time and - save for the awful decor referred to above - it can still hold its own.

This is a great classic disaster movie considering it was made in 1974. Very good acting from a great all star cast. Brilliant.

Saw it when it was first realesed, and have watched it quite a few times. Stands the test of time.

As always another great film from vaults. Newman and co. bring to life the horror of a fire in a skyscraper.
