This film is a work of art, i have never seen anything like it before and i doubt we ever will again. It was a really brave thing to even consider making a movie in this way but i feel it reall paid off as the performance from Ellen Page was again a treat. I still believe that Ellen is the next great actress of our time and we should watch out for future projects.
Here is a tip, due to the way the movie is shown (in fragments) it is difficult to understand what is events are taking place, so try watching it again because everything falls into place when you already know the background of the story.
this is a whole new concept in making a movie... that sucks! instead of the usual full screen image the screen is split up into screen fragments (hence the title) which show lost of different angles and images.. but after only ten mins or so of this concept you just feel dizzy to be honest..
so maybe a great film to watch if you're high (in which case the film probably makes perfect sense lol) but otherwise just avoid
its a shame because filmed conventially this movie would have been really good..the girl that plays Tracey looks to be a good actress and is quite striking and the story of the wayward teenager did look interesting..
this was weird to say the least.
i suggest you only rent this if you have a big screen as there are lots of tiny fragements of film all at once-hence the name i guess.
very depressing film and it's time line is all over the place.
you need to be in a mood to concentrate anyway!
Well 90 minutes of it anyway
Ellen Page is good though

I really like Ellen Page acting ,especially in the film Mouth to Mouth.
This film however is too much like hard work. Too many things happening at once, therefore too much concentration needed when all I wanted to do was sit down and watch what could have been a very good film. I have seen a few split screen films but in this one I think the word to describe the split screen technique is overkill.

Ever get the feeling that a film has been released just because the young actress who plays the lead is the current toast of Hollywood? No....well you will after this. Unashamedly self indulgent, and artsy, without any real substance. The young actress at the core of this, in my opinion, can't really carry a whole film, but then I haven't warmed to her previously in Juno or Hard Candy so maybe she just isn't my cup of tea. I don't think she's a bad actress, she just seems to play the same wise cracking teen with a slight alteration of tone to indicate that she's bad teen or good teen.
The notion of 'fragments' could have been quite stunning, but the constant double, triple picture on the screen is just plain annoying and in my opinion a little bit on the lazy side. Still wondering who they found to fund this one. Any how, I wouldn't bother with this unless your a fan of the lead actress because it struggles on substance, struggles on style and struggles with the concept of entertainment.
what a waste of my time dross dross dross
This film was unbearable, the concept of filming in this way is interesting for short bursts but to sit through 90mins of constant flickering as the fragmented scenes are portrayed is like watching a strobe light! The timeline of the story is so all over the place, it makes for a very difficult film to follow along with the distraction of 6 or 7 shots in view throughout.
The ending is totally unsatisfying and I feel this is a major dispointment to watch.
The only positive to this film is Ellen Page's performance however this alone is not enough to drag this dismal film out of the bin!
This is simply the worst film I have ever seen. A total waste of time. Whoever thought this style of film making was cool or cutting edge needs their head examined. Total and complete sh*t, I am really, really sorry I chose this.
I can see why some reviewers have had a problem with this film, but PLEASE PLEASE don't let them put you off. This is not your typical A to B narrative structure that the majority of film-goers are used to (and it seems prefer) - it's a 'fragmented' collage of a film (there's hardly a point where there's less than 6 separate images on the screen at once) the way to watch it is to just let it wash over you and not worry too much about trying to see everything. It's more like the way we actually perceive the world, but don't notice it because we filter a lot out - just do the same here - perhaps watch it twice - and marvel at this brave and beautiful masterpiece.
I whole heartedly agree with the reviewer about Ellen Page - she has to be the most spellbinding actress of her generation.
