Lock, Stock's Jason Statham plays second fiddle to a battery of special effects in this brainless high voltage action thriller. He plays the cool criminal driver who's paid to transport cargo — human, or otherwise — with no questions asked. When he violates his code by looking in one of the “packages and discovers a Chinese girl (Qi Shu), he's forced to go on the run from his employers and the police. Amid all the posturing macho extravagance (car chases, mega-explosive stunt work), there's also a bizarre oil wrestling sequence, and one extraordinary moment where Statham kisses his enemy underwater to steal his breath! Clearly, action is all that counts here and the plot (something about Chinese immigrants and the slave trade) seems the last thing on director Corey Yuen's mind.

  • Routine action movie that delivers the expected car chases and punch ups with commendable slickness but not much else.

    Non-stop action

Jason Statham is a God. Well, in this he is. He starts of with a really dodgy accent but does seem to lose it throughout the film.

He's a hired gin who does driving jobs for a hefty fee. For his services he'll use his superb driving skills to get his paying customers out of a jam. He asks no questions and needs precise instruction in order to perfectly time his getaways. His number one rule is to never ask questions. One day he takes a job from a sleazy and shady man named Betancourt. Instead of delivering the goods, he breaks his number one rule and peeks inside the package...

This movie is pure action having all the usual clichés: car chasing, explosions, fights when nobody uses guns, the lead actor gets some kind of involvement with the victim etc. But the choreography is excellent and the action scenes are great.

    Disjointed action

Jason Statham has never looked so good. Usually seen playing a support role, in this film he shows he can handle the limelight in playing the main character. Unfortunately the quality of the story doesn't back him up, and what starts optimistically on an interesting plot setup slowly lapses into a predictable and snore-enducing script. That said, the action sequences are amazing, if sometimes feeling a little shoehorned in. The fighting in engine oil scene is really quite messily special, and the speed and style of filming complement Jasons turn of speed in fight sequences. It's really the bits between the action that let the film down. Fun, fast and sometimes frantic, but Triple X it aint. If you enjoy Jean Van Damme films you'll probably enjoy this.

Statham embarrassed by public sex scene

    • 14 Apr 2009

Movie tough-guy Jason Statham was left red-faced filming a sex scene in a shopping mall - his fellow actors took photos of his bare buttocks. The Transporter actor had to strip for a saucy scene in front of dozens of extras playing passers-by. But the star was in for an embarrassing surprise - when the bit-part actors decided to capture the moment on their cell phones. Statham tells Ocean Drive magazine, "Trying to do an aggressive sex scene is quite difficult. Especially in a public place... Read more
