Written and produced with a delicate touch, this is a moving and rewarding film. With its subject matter it could have easily strayed into maudlin territory -- but it always stays just this side of the correct poetic line.

At ninety minutes it is also perfectly timed. Performances are good throughout, although Gainsbourg`s subliminal style could be mistaken for non-acting.

There is an unexpectedly dramatic climax to the film which adds a well-timed touch of real drama. And the Aussie scenery is captivating in its vastness -- the perfect backdrop to this intimate and heart-warming story of love and loss.

And the tree itself is awesome...!
