Fantastic 80's sci-fi
By Scully1888 (6 reviews) from London , 28 Sep 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
The 80's version of The Twilight Zone first hit UK TV screens when I was very young, but now that I'm old enough to appreciate it (22) I can safely say that it's fantastic, and in some episodes it's actually more enjoyable than Rod Serling's original black-and-white series. Although the boxset contains 24 episodes over 6 discs, it is worth bearing in mind that each episode is an hour long and contains 2 or 3 stories in it. In total, this first season actually contains 59 stories, the best of which in my opinion are featured on the first disc. Shatterday, starring Bruce Willis and directed by Wes Craven, is genius and A Little Peace & Quiet, also directed by Craven, is heartbreaking.
Highly recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

(26)Quirky, but very good TV.
By IainSk (12 reviews) , 30 Sep 2012This is a brilliant series and all done (at least for the first three) with little or no special effects - just good scripts, fair acting and (mostly) interesting ideas. Strangely enough my 3D enabled TV keeps switching automatically to the 3D facility when I play these discs as if it realises they are from another dimension.
Even if you are not too keen on the storylines or Rod Serlings introductory and concluding monologues you can always play 'Spot them before they were famous' with the actors who include William Shatner, Rod Taylor, Charles Bronson etc., etc., or another game - 'Guess the ending'!
Given this was the early 60's it was a revolution for TV drama and deserves a watch - and after all they are only 25 minutes long (45 for season 4) and Ad free.- Was this review helpful to you?

A must....
By a customer from England, Uk. , 28 Dec 2010Hasn't stood the test of time too well really, & there's certainly a few dud episodes tbh - but a pleasent trip down memory lane none-the-less.
Good, but doesn't compare to the original series.- Was this review helpful to you?

Disc 3
By a customer from England , 01 Dec 2010Only 2 or 3 stories were excellent out of about 10 - in disc 3. The remaining were quite boring; had to forward them.- Was this review helpful to you?

Consistent But Fuzzy
By a customer from Oxford , 07 Dec 2009The stories seem to be consistent with the original black and white episodes in nature, swinging between the comic and the serious. The colour robs it of some of its charm though.
However, this transfer is absolutely appalling. It looks more like low-grade VHS than DVD. The sound is bad too. I had to turn the television right up to hear it properly.- Was this review helpful to you?
