Ever heard of The Twins? Probably not. Huge media stars across Asia, not only are the girls annoyingly cute but they know how to make the odd movie or two. With a little help from Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen, and more than a nod to the whole Buffyverse, or should that be headbutt, The Twins kick and punch their way through two hours of damn fine entertainment.
Okay, so the girls can be a little too cute and even a little annoying at times but this massive hit across Asia is funny, fast and full of fantastic fight sequences from some of the biggest Asian stars in the industry today. And did I mention that the girls are cute!? Definitely worth two hours of your time.
This is an entertaining little film. The opening is completely misleading, a brilliantly shot showdown between martial arts experts and evil vampires in a deserted train station which is much better than anything that follows, but the rest is still quite good. The jokes are variable, and the emphasis on squealy teenage girls is a bit tedious, but the set-pieces are superb, and Jackie Chan's two scenes are worth watching in themselves. 'The Twins Effect' is rather like watching 'Blade 2', 'The Lost Boys' and 'Pretty in Pink' colliding in Hong Kong, but it's rarely boring, and it's rather refreshing to see a film with Asian heroes and Caucasian European villains, rather than the other way round. All in all, worth a look.
