This movie was a real gem in diguise!By a customer from North London , 10 May 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]This movie didn't have an impressive trailer, and there wasn't even any hype about it. BUT it turned out to be one of the best movies I've seen this year! The only reason I went to see the film was because it was a Mike Binder project. I had had the privilege of meeting Mr.Binder at work and thought I'd check out another of his films, and I was really impressed! The movie centres around the intricacies of abandonment and ensuing anger. The script is written really well, with some very light and funny bits thrown in for good measure. This is essentially a story of a devoted housewife (Allen) who discovers that her husband has gone and left her to bring up her 4 daughters, and has supposedly run off with his Secretary to Sweden. She takes solace in booze and Denny, a retired baseball player turned sports DJ. And all throughout we see what effect her anger has on all those around her. She sees the damage but she can't stop herself. The movie is an interesting, funny, human drama that takes us on the journey of how Mrs. Wolfmeyer (Allen) returns back to her sweet self. The end is interesting, and there's an unpredictable twist to the story, which makes one ponder: is reality something that happens to us without much/any of our participation OR do we choose to play 'our part' and act the role faithfully till the end or till we realise better? The end of this film answers that question beautifully. Mike has turned out a smashing movie, well cast and really well acted. Do yourself a favour: watch it, it will be well worth your time. If only for the fact that it's a superb good feel good movie!

watch the DVD 'cause you missed the film..By gainsb1 (38 reviews) , 02 Nov 2013There were no previous weeks trailers to announce this film and we found it by chance. We're glad we did, as it came and went quickly with no announcement. A truly excellent film that walks through the relationships of a drunken ex-baseball pro,(who is eking out a living at a radio station) and his equally drunken estranged female neighbour and her kids. Some very funny moments and light humour throughout and a bitter sweet ending, of sorts. Highly recommended.
Stick with it!By a customer , 16 Jun 2013Love Love Kevin Costner! The chemistry between him and Joan Allen is really authentic. You need to stick with it,its worth it!
Worth persevering with!By a customer , 14 Jan 2012I love Kevin Costner and his acting is brilliant, as always, in this film. The film is fairly slow but well worth persevering with.
Persevere, it's worth a tryBy a customer , 17 Dec 2011Amongst those critics that say they switched off after 30 minutes, my husband and I (!!) were thinking of doing the same. However, we persevered (we'd paid the rental after all!!) and we are glad we did. It ended up being a lovely tale and a bit of a twist at the end made it all worthwhile. Just hadn't thought of it at all, but I won't spoil it for you - watch it!! The writer should learn from the long drawn out beginning and the fact that many in the cinema's probably walked out unhappy too!
Disappointing plotBy a customer , 07 Dec 2011I adore Kevin Costner but have to say I turned the film off after a short spell of watching it.
I really didn't enjoy the subject matter especially all the bingeing. This probably says more about me than the film.
However I found it all quite boring and pointless.
Shame as I was looking forward to watching it.
