Do not rent this if you expect an exciting thriller. Woody Harelson is good, as is the acting in general, but the pacing is terrible. My first single star goes to The Walker.
I know, it's unusual to review the truly dreadful but I feel I must save you, dear reader from what I had to go through. This was appalling. Woody playing some sort of gay walker; apparently somebody who takes ladies wot lunch out shopping. His portrayal of the character is so uninspiring, you really can't wait for a scene without him.
If you want to get to the end of the movie, you'll need to .... sit on a drawing pin to keep awake.
Ideal gift for the mother-in-law!
I found Harleyson's accent difficult to hear at times. Generally found it a bit slow. I am sure there was depths to the film I missed as my brain kept wandering off.
Big dissapointment. Not worth the hassle of putting in into the DVD player.
Like the review title says... A huge let down. No passion, no thrill. By the end of the movie I thought 'Is that it'? I doubt many people will find this exciting and re-watchable.

Did anyone have the impression that Woody Harrelson was having a problem with his teeth. I wanted to concerntrate on this film, really i did, but i couldn't help looking at him the whole time, he looked like he was trying to keep them in!!!!
I think some of the other reviewers were unfairly critical of this movie. If they were expecting the usual kind of thriller, then I can see why they might be disappointed This is not your average thriller - it's an elegantly made and stylish kind of Rite of Passage. If you like beautifully made films I think you'll enjoy this peep at the machinations of the 'elite' of Washington society.
A walker is a man who appears to be refined, charming and socially skilled enough to escort rich, posh ladies around Washington. But Harrelson's character is not the gentleman his father was, and he knows it. When he stumbles into a crime, he crazily decides to 'act the gent' without reckoning the personal cost. This is a glimpse of a closed society very foreign to English people, and as such, is an entertaining curiosity. Pour a drink, settle back, and enjoy it without expecting any great film-making or excitement.
This film knocked me sideways, partly because I wasn't exactly sure what I was expecting. Paul Shrader's analysis of a well-respected senior senator's son who has failed to achieve more in his life than accompany high powered politician's wives around the high society scene reveals himself to be a much more complex and misunderstood character (probably even to himself). The conclusion of the film is chilling in that you see, in the final frames of the film, who holds the power. It is almost depressingly inescapable how this sector of society truly live in a completely different world and can pull strings to achieve they want to. It is an intriguing portrait of a man that Schrader described as being his 'American Gigolo' a few years on. I have made a mental note to watch this again!
Were we supposed to care about these people? I confess I couldn't take more than 40 minutes. I suspect if you were made to watch the whole thing you'd be prepared to confess to anything to avoid a repeat.

As poor a film as you are likely to see, especially given the potential. Avoid at all costs!
