    brilliant movie

you must see this movie, reading reviews won't tell you how good it is, you have to see it to know if any good or not, i can tell that you will not be disappointed. there is a dubbed verion and subtitle version.

Starring the gorgeous Ziyi Zhang... again!

I really liked this film. Its mostly taken up with battle action (some a bit gory) but it is also a lovely unspoken love story/triangle, which all good films are structured on, as I once heard a film director say. Ziyi Zhang is as beautiful as ever and I have no objections to seeing her on screen but tell me is she the only good looking Chinese foreign language film actress around?! Anyway for those of you out there who enjoyed Crouching Tiger and are seeing Hero (both starring the aforementioned actress) you should enjoy this too though it is somewhat a lesser film than these two. Also check out some of her other films such as The Road Home which is another wonderful young love story set in rural mid-20th century China.

Oh and P.S. I am a huge Kurosawa fan also.

    All warriors

Musa-the warrior. I love the trio-love story. The instant the general saw the princess, he fell in love with her and wanted to help her. Yet he was not able to show his feelings; instead, agreed to help her to the castle. Yeosol, the slave, on the other hand, did not have to say a word but showed her how he cared for her by saving her time and time again. In the end, Yeosol save the princess while risking his life, and the general prove that he can be a warrior.

In my opinion, all the soldiers were warriors. The young boy who risk his life to get water (thinking of his own wife and newborn that he did not see). Another soldier who saved the old lady b/c he felt the connection with her that she is like his own "ma". Also, another soldier who save the young child. In my mind, they were all warriors--risking their lives to save another no matter the rank or nationality. Very good movie...just a bit slow for an epic.

This is a good film to watch, if you like things like crouching tigger, hero and flying daggers, then this may be a good wtch for you.

    good film

a good film, was hard to keep watching as things begin to spiral out of control. characters were as plentiful as the action in this flick. loved the actor that played the mongol general, he was great in 'iron monkey' as well.

    Rather slow and slightly pointless.

Zhang Zi Yi looks great but plays a very annoying character and slightly overacts possibly because she's not asked to do much exept be an uppity princess. generally its pretty gory and I couldnt reaaly see the point of it. Certainly its not as emotive as If you liked Hero/Curse of the golden flower/Crouching Tiger/Flying daggers although its more realistic (no flying/no Kung Fu). Overall a little disappointing.

ooo, a bit more cheese please??

Battle scenes think Saving Private Ryan, good editing and camera syle. Overall, production values were good but the amount of cheese that covers the storyline is unbelievable. I got so bored with the predictable narrative in the end I switched the audio to the dubbed English version just to get some enjoyment chuckling away at the bad voice overs! If you like Hollywood watch this film, you'll love it. If you like Kurosawa, avoid.

    Entertaining Epic

An enjoyable (if bloody) epic about a bunch of Korean soldiers trying to regain credibility in the eyes of the Ming Dynasty by rescuing their princess from the Mongols. While the fight scenes cannot match the balletic artistry of films like Crouching Tiger and Hero - they are brutal and exciting enough to keep you going. What I like most is the fact that we see other Asian fighters like the Koreans and Mongols who we don't usually get a look at in these sorts of movies. Overall definately worth a watch - although I felt it was slightly let down by the score, it doesn't work in parts and could have been a lot better.

    Read all the positive reviews

Not much to add to all the other positve reviews. A Beautiful film, with subtle undertones and charadters you really care about (and no 'flying' which seems to invade most Asian Cinema). The fighting is very gritty and more believable. The corny score loses one star, but the fantastic cinematography is good compensation.

    Great Movie

One of the best movies I have seen this year.

An epic with plenty of action, some scenes are a bit gruesome and over the top but on the whole a movie not to miss.

    Excellent storyline.
