In this glossy romantic drama, Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford play the ideal odd couple — she's poor, jittery, Jewish and a radical, and he's rich, self-assured, Gentile and conservative. Set against the backdrop of a changing America, including the McCarthy-era witch-hunts, every scene seems dreamed up by a dating-agency computer, though the sheer professionalism of the picture and the performances can't fail to touch you. Redford, as a character seemingly hewn from the pages of F Scott Fitzgerald (he's a writer to boot), is perfectly cast and Streisand is simply Streisand. Watch out for James Woods in an early role.
Instant nostalgia for Americans, some fun and a lot of boredom for everybody is provided by this very patchy star vehicle which makes a particular mess of the McCarthy witch hunt sequence but has undeniable moments of vitality.
A Love Story with Redford and Streisand making an undeniably attractive pair. Though doomed from the start (by class,... read more on Time Out

They say 'nostalgia ain't what it used to be'. They are so wrong and if you watch this film you'll see why. Two big stars deliver two big performances. A 'must see' if only for the saddest love scene on film. They say 'parting is such sweet sorrow'. They are so right.

I haven't seen this movie for years and was pleasantly surprised at how it has stood the test of time. Streisand is wonderful as the political campaigner and Redford sublime as the rich kid who becomes a writer. The chemistry is there in spades and the end has you reaching for the tissues, so keep them handy and enjoy one hell of a film!

This may be a classic - in my cheesy opinion the song is..... - but it was just too dated for me to watch! Im a bit of a phillistine (cant watch anything made before 1960 really) but this was just too much - chessy camera angles, bizzarely cut sex scenes, totally unrealistic relationships between the sexes. I had to stop watching it halfway through and never really got into it. As I said though -dont necesarily listen to me - just my opinion (and kind of my warning!)......

A timeless classic. It can only be described as classic romantic holloywood!!
A story about the romance of an all american guy and a radical protesting jew, set in the times before, during and after the 2nd world war.
I loved this film, perfect for a lazy afternoon. The two leads are wonderful and the ending perfect, not typical but perfect for the story. Loved everything about it.
