Surreal and surprisingly disturbingBy a customer , 15 Sep 2013A surreal, melancholy, almost post-apocalyptic film interrupted with musical numbers (describing the emotions of the main characters), exploring isolation, consumerisim and the benal, forced eroticism of pornography. This is not a bawdy comedy or a titillating film, it is explicit and yet thought-provoking and disturbing. The situation of a water shortage only serves as a backdrop to an interrogation of some of the worst about modern culture. Watch if you are not prudish, want something to think about and can handle the weird-factor.
The further East you go...........By a customer , 25 Aug 2013Probably the most honest exploration of the porn phenomenon (note the distancing there) I have ever seen. Giving birth to a watermelon, having sex with a watermelon, being in love but short of water, all these thing are portrayed beautifully and much, much more. Now I would like to know more about Taiwan, the history of Sino-Japanese relations...(I know, 'don't go there') it's messy but so is capitalism and urban planning. This is a 4 star film about a shocking but important subject, pornculture.
Dried up idea.By Loopgrinder (176 reviews) , 13 Aug 2013Found this hard work and after an hour of very little happening decided enough was enough. I always feel cheated to turn a film off after investing time on it - but better an hour than nearly two. Very slow and not entertaining enough to keep me interested - hope there wasn't a groundbreaking climax! And I don't like watermelons enough to get excited...
Obscure by cloudBy sakebitten (5 reviews) , 13 May 2013it has a bizarre charm but it's slow. The random song and dance intervals enliven the duller bits but don't really make sense. Didn't really pay attention towards the end - and that final shocking scene! Came as a total surprise.
Amazing Cinematography, Wierd, Powerful, DisturbingBy Sony3DGuy (53 reviews) from Barnsley , 20 Apr 2013This is not so much a film, but more of a mixture of a musical & a film... Its a very powerful film, with excellent cinematography, amazing camera angles, fantastic photography, great score and great acting. The film as a message, a disturbing one, throughout the entire film there is hardly any spoken dialogue, its quite unique, very weird, but powerful.. the ending however is deeply disturbing, perhaps one of the most disturbing endings I have ever seen, its touching, and brings home a powerful disturbing message, any porn actor watching this, or any man who thinks women are just sexual objects would perhaps think twice before they have sex again for the sake of having sex.. its very well written, and lots of sex pornographic sex scenes, but its not a film that is meant to arouse, but more help you remember how deeply disturbed and sexually perverse some cultures are.. or should I say men...
