David Spritz (Cage) is a successful Chicago weatherman who for reasons beyond his understanding, frequently gets fast-food thrown at him on the street. Could the reason for this be that David's job, though lucrative, requires little exertion, allowing him to occupy what even he admits is a relatively easy existence? Living in .. Read more

    A very human film

I didn't have high expectations about this film and thought it would be an ordinary Hollywood movie with a big name cast. However it turned out to be a very touching and human film, quite unusual, too, featuring great performances by both Cage and (especially) Michael Caine. It is both funny and sad at times and anyone having gone through any sort of identity, job or marrital and family problems, would appreciate the pain and humour in this film. That is to say, it probably has universal appeal to anyone who is a parent and has a job!!! The cinema advertised it as a comedy, but it isn't one, not in the classic sense of the word, and despite its many funny moments, humour is always bitter-sweet. Well worth renting, not only because of its humanity and ultimate optimistic ending, but just to see Michael Caine in a really touching performance. I am not into this type of film as a rule but really loved this and I wrote this review hoping it would induce other people to give it a go, even if they thought it wouldn't be their style!

    Terrible!

I have always viewed Nick Cage as a fanatastic actor and has done many great film, yet this film is a major let down.

The plot is awful, it is a boring, lifeless story and I have never had the desire of wasting money when going to see a film at the cinema, however half way through I was prepared and ready to leave.

I stayed and it only got worse. Do not rent this film, a waste of two hours!

    Get to the point!

Considering the cast of Nicolas Cage and Michael Caine, I was expecting something with a decent script. However, the pace was very slow and I found it difficult to identify with any of the characters. I also found it hard to believe that Nicolas Cage's character could be good enough at his job to be up for a promotion when he didn't seem to care about anything, and neither did anyone else. His father was ill, his daughter fat and his son a delinquent, but no one seemed that bothered. And the moments that should have been funny, or at least wry or ironic, were just cringe making.

Generally, I thought it was a waste of a good cast.

    Remarkable

Nicolas Cage's best role and film he has ever done and is a landmark for his good work.

A great cast and director with hilarious sarky moments

If you like Fargo you will love this film, enough said.

Great... if you want to be miserable !

If you don't mind being immersed in misery, pity and self loathing for 101 minutes... this is the film for you. However if you would prefer to sneak off to bed in a good mood having watched a 'comedy' , well and truly give this a miss. It genuinely sucks and puts you on a complete downer.

    YYYYYYYaaaaaaawwwwwnnnnnn!!!!!!

What a disappointment Mr Cage and Mr Caine were. I was hoping from the previews that this film would be offering so much more. I was nearly asleep from boredom. The moral of the story was apparent but any chance we might get some entertainment form this movie, anyone??? No? I guess not.A comedy? questionable indeed. The funniest scene was when Nic's part had a wendy's shake thrown at him, not even slapstick! C'mon Hollywood. What are you doing??!!! My Conclusion: - Painful to watch, don't even bother putting yourself thru such torture!! LOL!

    Good all round film

Good film in all, can be abit slow to start with, but is defiantly worth it if you stick it out to the end.

If you like black comedies and got a weird sense of humour then I would recommend this film, and you can’t go wrong with Nicholas Cage.

Not as funny as the trailer

This is more drama than comedy although from the trailer you would think the reverse. Not bad, but watch it when you want lightish drama not comedy.

    doo doo

I have been a Nicholas Cage fan for many a year. I was expecting another good film from him, or at the very least something watchable and entertaining. I was severely disappointed. I put up with the lack of direction and the poor script for 25 minutes; I was then forced to turn it off. This is without a doubt the worst film that Nicholas Cage has ever been involved in.

    I enjoyed it.

This film would appeal to anyone who has ever gone to the bother of questioning their position at work and in life. Nicolas Cage's character is a successful T.V. Weatherman, on the verge of a nervous breakdown and immense self discovery. His Father (Michael Caine) is a successful author and a the archetypal Parent, symbolically the perfect example of a human being, that Cage strives to emulate. Cage is so immersed in trying to be his Father, that he has forgotten who he is himself, and treats the news that his Father is terminally ill with apathy. At the same time he is struggling to win back the affections of his estranged wife, and children but cannot resist resorting to lying and violence when backed into mentally uncomfortable corners. The film looks at these matters and in my opinion deals with them in a warm, humorous and intelligent manner. All in all a very well made and well acted film, but don’t bother to watch it, if when you read the word Comedy you expect to see a film in the mould of American Pie.

    Better than it sounds

Films where the title says it all, i.e. Snakes on a Plane, don't promote high expectations but this one which, as you'd expect, is about a man who reads the weather is worth a look.

Nicholas Cage is not a favourite of mine but I thoroughly enjoyed this film which had an unpromising plot but dealt humouressly with issues most can relate to (career/money/kids/parents/temptation) in themselves or their friends.
