What can one say about the west Wing that hasn't already been said? The political drama set in the administrative 'West' wing of the White House concentrates on a group of dedicated people supporting probably the best President America will ever have! The winner of four consecutive Emmy Awards as Outstanding Drama Series, under the direction of executive producer John Wells it offers viewers a realistic, behind-the-scenes peek into the Oval Office as seen through the eyes of its eclectic group of frenzied staffers and the devoted First Family.

It is a very fast paced drama and knowledge of the American political system does help but it certainly doesn't hinder any enjoyment you may have should you know absolutely nothing about American politics.

Just when you think the writers can't improve, out they come with episode after episode of high quality drama. I cannot rate this drama highly enough and if you are a fan or good quality writing, drama and acting; then this is the series for you.

Martin Sheen stars as the President, his support cast include Rob Lowe, Stockard Channing, Dule Hill, John Spencer and Bradley Whitford.

I've been told this is a sort of 'what if there was a liberal president' fantasy. This doesn't excuse formulaic glam sugar-coating dolefully reminiscent of the worst of US TV's pat thyself on the back motifs. The characters are generally alienating and snarky: jagged stereo-types or self-serving narcissists, and the actors for the most part dull and bland. (Martin Sheen being the exception) A lot of blame has to go on the scripts. I suspect the large audience for this show are relatively well off, or perhaps a little politically blind. I want those hours of my life back. It's kind of like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia with the jokes replaced by bleeding train wreck victims. . Viewers who like The West Wing might enjoy: LA Law, Dallas, Murder She Wrote, the british TV show Loose Women, Jeremy Kyle, and Friends.

  • Brilliant and totally gripping

I rented this as I'd missed it when it was on tv. And I'm so glad I did - just finished season 3 and waiting with bated breath for season 4. Gripping storylines, laugh-out-loud in places and amazing acting.

My personal favourite episode of season 1 - when CJ has a root canal. Won't say anymore but it had me in stitches.

Following season 2 I rented 24 which was predictable and too stretched out. West Wing is so much better.

Brilliantly written, fantastically acted. One of the best series ever to come out of America.

  • Classy and intelligent

I rented this as I became a huge fan of Rob Lowe in Brothers and Sisters, so watched it with some anticipation of a classy performance from Lowe, but very little other. I thought that it was excellent: not over-dramatic,intriguing, with the humour underplayed. So many dramas and films patronise the audience: this was intelligent and assumed that the audience was bright enough to keep up. Class.

it takes a bit of getting into but once you do and the characters become a bit more familiar then its excellent. martin sheen could be the american president he fits right in and his staff all bring to the party.
