Witcher 2 is for RPG Players only.
By KyleOfKent (15 reviews) , 20 Apr 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
I personally love RPG games, was a big fan of Dragon age 2, Skyrim and Mass effect 3, but looking critically at this game, I don't feel it can be enjoyed by people who just like the adventure in a game, this is due to the many mission where you are required to actually search for objectives, rather than have them right in front of you from start to end.
The gameplay is fast, action packed and intense, but the action only makes up around 40% of the game, alot of it is actually searching for ingredients, talking to various people, and generally looking for your way around the missions.
Overall, I give it a 5 for an RPG, but I saw many interviews and trailers before release that described this as an action/adventure game too, don't be fooled, you need a good few hours to attempt this game.
Finally, the storyline is very appealing, good twists and turns, and it really does keep you interested, and for this, I have to credit The Witcher 2 for it's first attempt at a console.
Buy it/Rent it - But only if you like RPG, for action/adventure, I'd stick with games like prototype or assasins creed.- Was this review helpful to you?

(26)Not quite there yet
By a customer , 28 Mar 2013The game is good if you are after a deep storyline however, after receiving skyrim at the same time i could not bring myself to go back to the witcher as skyrim is a much superior game. if you are after a game with clear instructions and guidelines the witcher is not for you and would be better suited to skyrim. The game is just missing too many vital areas needed for a well rounded RPG- Was this review helpful to you?

After months sat in a box.. astonishing
By Dico (7 reviews) , 28 Mar 2013I ordered this game and left it on the side for quite some time, and after many bad discussions almost sent it back without having played what is, in my opinion one of the best RPGs in years. Throughout this game the story is extremely interchangeable and the depth to character development in combat (which at first takes some getting used to) is extremely varied. It proves a steep learning curve but a harder difficulty fundamentally comes down to how well you develop and prepare your character for battle. I won't drag on for pages so i'll sum up by making a comparison to the early Mass effect series, this is not open world like Skyrim, (I didn't actually enjoy Skyrim) but more accessible along the level architechture of how Mass Effect worked, hubs with which you base yourself before venturing out. I'm not a believer in rivalling IGN for review content so ill leave it there but cannot recommend this game enough, probably the best title i've played in 12 months- Was this review helpful to you?

Good Idea, Bad Execution
By Trevize2888 (2 reviews) , 06 Mar 2013Initially this was fun to play. It had an impressive opening video, a decent soundtrack and a straight-forward tutorial level. Unfortunately, the more I played it the less interest I had. Ultimately it comes down to someone having a really good idea but not executing it properly. Being able to create weapons and armour from monster parts was fun but there are only a handful of things that you can make. The environment is beautiful but unfortunately the map is extremely basic and can, at times, be confusing. The combat system does not allow for showy fighting techniques and most enemies can be killed fairly easily by hammering the A button. All this is a shame because the game has a lot of potential. The characters are great, the story is clever, plus witty dialogue and a selection of areas to explore should make this game one of the best. Unfortunately it is lacking, at points it can be very difficult. Questing in particular is very much left to interpretation with no real pointers for the player to follow (unless it's a main quest). Combined with the lack of a fast travel system this means that you will be traipsing backwards and forwards a lot. Overall I'd say, give it a go if you get the chance, see what you think but don't expect a perfect gaming experience. There are better RPGs out there, but there are far worse ones too...- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer , 25 Jan 2013As the title states: the story was amazing, the graphics were stunning, the cutscenes were superbly rendered... The gameplay was atrocious.- Was this review helpful to you?
