Young Sam Callahan (Bug Hall) is reaching an age where his curiosity about the opposite sex and his possible interactions with it is reaching a boiling point. As an aspiring writer, he needs this information to give his stories realism. With the help of his mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and equally interested classmate Maurey (Mischa Barton), Sam begins his coming of age with a voyage of discovery into the world of sex. Soon, he leaves behind his image of a perfect woman (Drew Barrymore) to find himself romantically entangled with fellow voyager Maurey.

This story of two young teenagers who 'practice' sex like others would study butterflies is a nice little comedy that provides good honest light-hearted entertainment, nothing more, nothing less.
What it is: a warm-hearted comedy well played by the two young actors and a host of more or less well known adult supporters, a look into an early 60s US small town world before emancipation and liberalisation, a film about sexual exprimantation without overt nudity or depiction thereof
What it isn't: a sex film!
It seems unfortunate that the title makes it sound like yet another serving from the porn industry where it clearly doesn't belong. I also wonder why so much effort went into a film about young teenagers that thankfully avoids depicting their sexual experimentations but is full of strong sexual language and therefore ends up being rated as an adult film that misses its presumed target audience. The actors try their best but the script and the direction could have made this a film that stands out. This way it's an average movie but still worth watching if only for the warm and empathic way it deals with this tricky subject.
There are no extras on this DVD whatsoever.
My verdict: Enjoy the film and don't be mislead by the title.
