    Not what I expected

Please note that this is only the Bonus DVD and contains the making of The World At War. If you are not interested in the extras and just want to watch the original disks then don't bother getting this.

    Historic achievement

A staggering achievement in TV Documentaries. This DVD has only one minor problem, what a god awful menu system.

Still the content of the series makes it worth fighting with until you know what you are doing.

Not a full 4 stars due to the menu system and the lack of significant extras other than some photos and some pages of information

Brilliant. Tha documentary is as good as I remember when seen in the 70's. Narrated perfectly. An authoritative account of the world at war.

On the down side are the DVD menus which I found very confusing, surely there could have been a much simpler way to menu the disk. Be careful you don't miss footage!

    Harrowing

I think every school should play this on a regular basis. It shows how war was terrible for everyone, and is very well presented from all angles, not a winner/loser Hollywood scenario. The footage is amazing. When you see how young the soldiers are it is easy to find yourself in tears! A very very worthwhile film - 4 hours or so! Definitely good Sunday afternoon viewing.

    World at War Disk 4

I have had this set in my list since I joined Tesco DVD rental nearly 2 years ago and I have got the first of the disks today (DISK 4) was it worth the wait - you bet it was! I was too young to remember this the first time round and it was absolutely riveting, the sheer quality of it, the amount of footage, the inerviews, no prima-dona presenters hogging the screen, just the information this box set should be in every school in Britain. This is the best documentary series on the second world war I have EVER seen, cannot wait for the rest to come! (also I personally didn't think the menu system was too bad, if you work your way through it logically and carefully you don't miss anything) I cannot recommend this enough see how documentaries SHOULD be made!

    Mesmerising

This series should be part of the national curriculum ! Whilst now a virtual distant chapter of history, current events show us that nothing has been learnt, plenty has been forgotten and mans appetite for war continues. Maybe if there were more programmes like this, that show the futility and despair that conflict and invasion brings, maybe less people would be quick to raise arms.
