Most helpful review
Very good fight scenes
By a customer from Leicester, England , 03 Feb 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
An average movie in terms of its story. Standard old skool style. However the fight scenes are really very, very good. The end battle between Jackie and Yuen are incredible. Definately worth watching.- Was this review helpful to you?

(12)Best Jackie Chan film?
By a customer from London , 16 Jan 2009Jackie Chan wrote, directed and choregraphed this film, like he has done with most of his earlier films.
I've seen this movie about 7 times and am still astounded by the fight scenes. In fact, I recorded on VHS when it came on Channel 4 about 10 years ago, and still watch that copy!
He's mistaken for the 'White Fan', who is actually his friend and is pursued by the town policeman. This adds some light humour into the film, but also creates a great fight scene involving benches. The scenes where he is handcuffed, in particular, show the athleticism of Jackie and are very entertaining.
The final scene must be one of his best. He gets beaten on to the point where you think he can't take anymore, he's tired, he's thirsty and manages to find some opium water which gives him some courage!
It's a great film that can be watched time and time again.- Was this review helpful to you?

What a kicking
By a customer from Wokingham , 01 Dec 2008Poor Jacky gets the longest kicking he has ever suffered.
As usual, some top stunts and feats of athleticism.- Was this review helpful to you?

Like jackie Chan? You'll love this.
By a customer from Enfield, England , 21 Jan 2008If you are a jackie Chan fan then he can probably do no wrong in your eyes anyway but one or two of his later films can seem a bit too contrived for some tastes.
This one is full of fun and action and is sure to entertain his fans.- Was this review helpful to you?

Hardly Chan's best
By Gestalt (36 reviews) from Guildford , 27 Jul 2007There are a few nice setpieces, including a Chinese lion dance near the start and a fight using a wooden bench of all things, but overall I was a bit underwhelmed to be honest.
The story drags a bit in the middle, a couple of the fights weren't particularly impressive, and there isn't the usual quota of physical comedy and crazy stunts you'd expect from a Jackie Chan film to tide things over. Also, the cameraman seems to have been on a caffeine rush during the filming of several scenes, as Young Master has the highest number of crash zooms per minute I've ever seen in a movie. There are a couple of scenes where the camera is rapidly zooming in and out almost constantly and seemingly at random, which is kinda distracting.
Not a great place to start if you're new to Jackie Chan then, but it's an enjoyable enough way to pass the time if (like me) you're a Chan fan.- Was this review helpful to you?
