  • A Charming Film And Solid Effort from Start To Finish,

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Although this film had all the earmarks of the dreaded stereotypical 'chick flick' and/or 'yenta-fest', I enjoyed it thoroughly, because in the end it was a charming, mature film about real life and real people, one which can be enjoyed on many levels by anyone who has a heart.

The script was solid, the editing spot on, the cinematography taut (especially the close-ups), the actors all on top of their games, and the fact that all these well-known stars are showing their age (and character!) in their faces just added to the feeling of genuine emotion and augmented the audience ability to empathize with the characters.

I went in not expecting much and came out EXTREMELY satisfied... all the more impressed because it was Ms. Hunt's big screen directorial and writing debut.

Really enjoyed watching this film. Great to have a good story exploring more mature relationships with all its baggage and complications. The story itself is quite heart warming. The acting is good. Was pleasantly surprised Helen Hunt directed such a meaty film.

For me, this film was a waste of a rental. Helen Hunt looks tired and worn, and far older than her rather irrational character - completely unconvincing that Colin Firth fancied her at all, although that's not the main problem. Completely unconvincing that she almost made out with the husband who abandoned her in a parked car in broad daylight mere minutes after seeing her gorgeous new boyfriend - especially as we've been shown earlier that she sees right through the husband. In the end, completely uninteresting what happens in the film and totally un-enriching. If you are a Colin Firth completist, grit your teeth and go ahead, but otherwise, especially if you are a Helen Hunt fan, best to avoid.

Watched this film on a bus journey & was very glad I hadn't rented it. Helen Hunt always makes my heart sink for some reason. She felt miscast as this character. The appearence of Colin Firth was a pleasant surprise, but again felt wrong & implausable.

Sorry didnt like this one! A very dull film with a dissapointing ending and the relationship between Mattew Broderick's Character & his ex wife is cringeworthy to say the least. Don't think i will be watching this one again any time soon!
