Interesting story, well told and with positive message. You can't expect much more from a film nowadays when most films insisit in reporting the worst of human condition.

  • Wars are often more complicated with who are the good and bad guys

Set during the Spanish Civil War. Showed very well that atrocities were committed on both sides. Although it was quite an epic film I do not remember it getting any publicity.

I watched just over a hour of this film before I couldn't stand the pain anymore.

Do yourself a favor and choose another film, complete waste of time, hard to follow story and can't tell you how it ended as I never got that far

I disagree with certain reviews. I found the film very interesting and historically correct; there were no 'howlers' in either the history or the settings. I thought the actors were excellent in each part played, although I was not at all impressed by the makeup artist who prepared the father's face in old age. It was a harrowing film but one that I am glad was actually made;that period in Spain should not be forgotten. Think of the films that have been made to do with like subjects such as the American Civil War and not too long ago in Eastern Europe.

One final comment would be that I wonder if the Vatican quietly contributed to the filming?!
