  • Daniel Day Lewis extravaganza

I have been a big fan of Daniel Day-Lewis for a very long time. In terms of acting ability he must be classed as amongst the top echelon of those people without peer. This performance is totally enthralling and the only downside is that as with a film such as Gangs of New York, the rest of the cast simply cannot match the sheer intensity of who they are performing with. This film is excellent to watch, exciting and interesting all the way through and I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Day-Lewis never disappoints

    Rated - 5.0 stars

It's difficult to watch a film in which none of the characters are sympathetic, but that doesn't at all detract from the film or the performances being superb. Day-Lewis gives this his everything, as usual, and his character is dark and increasingly chilling, pitted against the character of Eli. When there is no moral high ground on either side and an absence of integrity, what can only surface is ugly and nihilistic. Is the title a quote from somewhere - it feels 'spaghetti western' to me and almost dissuaded me from watching the film until I saw that Day-Lewis was in it. Then I knew it would be a masterpiece. Don't expect action and high tension - just let the characters slowly unfold and play against each other. The ending is surprising and ambiguous until you complete the jugsaw yourself. I love films that involve the viewer so well.

  • Utterly superb

In a word 'superb'. The story is utterly convincing as are the actors. A film that arouses strong emotions, which so much of Hollywood's 'blockbuster specail effects filled' rubbish fails to do these days.

  • Day-Lewis Delivers

Drags on a bit, especially in the middle, and one of the slowest paced films I've seen. Daniel Day-Lewis really makes the movie with his superb performance, worth watching for his performance alone. I actually really liked the ending as well, although it does seem to divide opinion.

Some of you might like it, but I wish I've stopped watching after 20 minutes. Fully deserved an Oscar though.

Very good film with an amazing performance from Day-Lewis. Worthy of an Oscar and the story was well written. Excellent film.
