Too stagey
By crispin40 (556 reviews) from Stirling, Scotland , 16 Mar 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
Very artificial acting. Ciouldn't be bothered with it. Terence Stamp was hamming it up as indeed was Julia McKenzie with a very fake Scottish accent. Gave it about 15 minutes but then decided I've better things to do with my time!- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)Like pulling teeth
By kba22 (2 reviews) , 09 Jul 2011Dear fellow movie lovers
Please do not bother with this film.
I kept thinking while watching it, what made it so bad.
1. Poorly acted
2. Poorly written
3. Poorly directed
4. Poorly edited
It's just all round a waste of your and my time. Skip it and move on to something so much better.
p.s. Anjelica Huston was good, as usual.- Was this review helpful to you?

A charmer
By Mutter (157 reviews) from Wadhurst, Eat Sussex , 07 Jan 2008A pleasantly charming, old fashioned little movie with added comedy by way of cynical asides from Terence Stamp. Refreshing and thoroughly enjoyed.- Was this review helpful to you?

Brilliant!
By Wife of customer from Wales , 07 Nov 2007I enjoyed this immensely -
I like quality period pieces featuring feelgood romantic stories; and I'm interested in Theatre too.
It also has a very good cast, with older established stars as well as Zoe Tapper & Eve Myles (both of whose performances I've enjoyed previously on stage & on TV), Andrew Lincoln, & an attractive young man new to me: David Leon.
(It might deserve 5stars, though I've given 4 instead, just because its story also includes a couple of baddie cads, whereas I'd have preferred just the Romance[s]!)- Was this review helpful to you?
