This low-budget horror confirms just how far Mickey Rourke's fortunes have fallen. Convinced his wacko student brother's fireball death isn't an accident (the missing internal organs being something of a giveaway), Daniel Cosgrove teams with detective Tamara Davies to point the finger at Rourke's Trillion cult. However, it's not their obsession with electrical torture and mutilation that's the problem, but an army of genetically modified cockroaches developed for the US military. Director John Allardice sets up the insect attacks with mechanical proficiency, but this is worth seeingonly for Rourke's eccentric turn — and that's not a recommendation.
Bugs moives. Good, solid, creepy idea. If badly executed however, low grade rubbish. Thats not to say that of this movie, however, this film is not sure what it wants to be. Cop thriller, straight horror, monster movie, who dunit, conspiricey, all present and accounted for.
If your after a creepy horror movie, this ain't it. When the roaches do rear thier little heads the effects are above average, but this happens too rarely. Oh and Mr. Rourke & Mr. Loc both feature for a matter of seconds, blink & you'll miss 'em.
