  • It's going to be a long wait till TIE90

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Better than TIE86, this is TV at its absolute best. Meadows and co return with more powerhouse performances and a story that gripped until the moving finale.

McClure as Lol is excellent again, struggling to cope with the pressures of motherhood and the memories of the recent past. Gilgun as Woody emerges even more more forcefully than in the film and previous series as his conflicted character bottles up a lot of emotions that explode to the surface in the final episode. Turgoose is still playing Shaun as troubled teen and is given less to do here than in other installments. And Graham as Combo steals the show once more with a single scene that shows his character becoming more sympathetic as time goes by.

It's not quite as grim as TIE 86 fortunately and is actually much better for it. Meadows leaves the characters with a slight sense of optimism lurking in the air after the three gripping, emotionally draining episodes of this series.

Literally the best bit of TV of the year. Possibly the best drama I've ever seen. Can't wait for TIE 90 as promised by Meadows.

The This Is England series of films gradually draws you in and leaves you hooked. It's helpful to watch them in the right order - unfortunately Love Film sent me the 88 disc before sending the 2nd disc of the 86 group. So many of the characters are steadily developed suh that you feel that you're surrounded by a bunch mates that you've seen progress over a few years. Loll, Woody, Shaun, Smell, the list just goes on and on. If you can cope with the language, you're in for a real treat.

This is human drama at it's finest, the casting, acting and directing is top notch.

Particularly Joe Gilgun and Vicky McClure is absolutely heart breaking to watch, however every single character, major or minor, feels so real you'd swear you're watching a documentary.

This is one of those films where you hold you breath the entire playtime.

I found this absorbing. The acting was first class & you felt for everybody in it. The only drawback was there was no catch up at the beginning as I missed the last episode of the first series that would have been handy. Also I am hoping there will be a third series as the ending left a lot of questions unanswered

I'm a late comer to the 'This is England' tv series although I did see the original film. Why did I leave it so late, this is fantastic TV!

Its both raw and heart breaking, the Woody/Lol relationship is perhaps the most mature look at real (if not a little damaged) people I've seen this year.

Acting is top notch by all concerned, special mention to Joseph Gilgun who by rights should be much better known.

    Roll on the next series
