(692)This was England 30 years ago ....has it changed?!
By haylesbaylespigstales (130 reviews) from Fleetwood , 17 Feb 2013I was in my early teens when this film was set so did't know that much about what was 'really going on' apart from what was in the media - which wasn't that much as i remember.
A gritty story, quite sad in parts & brilliant acting, the relationship with sean & the original gang was really warming at first but as always it didn't last & went downhill after that.
His mum was a little unbelievable as she seemed almost too nice about the whole thing.
Very good, I'm glad I've finally watched it!!- Was this review helpful to you?

Watchable, no better than that
By DaKMan (1 review) , 23 Sep 2012Some good performances and it captures the mood of England in the 1980's pretty effectively. However, these are the only redeeming features in a film that plods to an unsatisfying ending after a promising first half. Romance between a 12 year old boy and much older girl (is she 17?) was puzzling and lacked realism. Plot was light on development and had we seen more of Combo's fate as part of the film's grim finale it would have been a better ending for me.- Was this review helpful to you?

Interesting film of the period
By DrBobH (2 reviews) , 06 Apr 2012A film that captures some of the feel of the period and reminded me of the fashions (loose term) of the time. I suspect that a gang of lads of this nature would have not been quite as nice as portrayed and the relationship between they and the young lad is probably a little far fetched. That between the young lad and the girl is stretched even further as differences in age and between genders are quite marked for adolescents/young adults. Nevertheless, I found it interesting and could see an overall realism in the portrayal of the youth's and their culture. I'm not sure that the film overview that describes the gang as skinheads and mods is truly accurate. I would have thought that skinheads and suedeheads might be closer to the truth. But oh those cherry red doc martens....- Was this review helpful to you?

Recommended to Watch
By a customer , 07 Feb 2012Good story. VERY violent. The attitudes were enough to make me feel uncomfortable. Recommended if you're not squeamish. Mum was a bit unbelievable, but that's just my honest opinion.- Was this review helpful to you?
