This Goes to Eleven
By Simon Chaffer from London, England , 11 Nov 2003[Highly rated reviewer]
Arguably one of the funniest films ever made when it came out in 1984, this stands up remarkably well considering it is now nearly 20 years old.
A British rock group who have been together since the early sixties are now reduced to playing innuendo laced heavy metal to half empty American halls. And that's before things really start to go wrong!
From out and out slapstick to subtle wordplay, the comedy just keeps on coming. Brilliantly observed and acted, this film manages to be hysterical and yet believeable and even moving at times. The mark of a great film is that you never want it to end and this a perfect example. It's such a fine line between stupid and clever but this is pure genius.- Was this review helpful to you?

(127)Subtitling Review
By pinkglitteryseashells (3 reviews) , 03 Mar 2012It states that this DVD has English subtitles for the hearing impaired, but this is not the case. There is no option for English subbies at all, however it does have Danish, French, German, Norwegian, Finnish and Swedish subtitles.- Was this review helpful to you?

The greatest movie ever made
By a customer , 06 Nov 2011Stupendous it shakes you out of your comfort zone and inspires you in ways you never thought possible.
This is a different type of movie; along the likes of cinemas most bizarre films; Black Biscuit (Fabrizio Federico), Tarnation (Jonathan Caouette), and Performance (Donald Cammell).
Both Beautiful, funny and spellbinding - A must see.- Was this review helpful to you?

Bizarrely funny
By addicksfan (9 reviews) from London , 19 Oct 2011I saw it when it first came out and it was hilarious then.
The storyline is true and I remember a lot of bands recognising themselves in this film and laughing along with it.
Lots of things to watch out for all the way through.- Was this review helpful to you?

Rock with laughter all the way through
By nicoma (3 reviews) from Basingstoke , 29 Jun 2011This is a film that has me spluttering with laughter even on its twentieth viewing. I guess you need to see some of the 'reverential' rockumentaries that are being taken off in this wonderfully inventive pastiche.
The band dancing round their 11 inch version of Stonehenge never fails to bring tears to the eyes - as does the 'pod' that finally releases the trapped band member on the last riff of their 'headline' number.
This could so easily (and more likely) be brits taking off yanks. But it's the other way round and they do it quite superbly. A wonderful wonderful film.- Was this review helpful to you?
