David Kane's THIS YEAR'S LOVE is a bittersweet comedy that follows a group of London twenty-somethings looking for romance and, of course, that special someone. When an apparently perfect relationship between tattoo artist Danny (Douglas Henshall) and dressmaker Hannah (Catherine McCormack) ends in tears on the wedding day, it's back to the singles scene for both of them. There they meet Liam (Ian Hurt), a passionate geek; Marey (Kathy Burke), a pub singer; Sophie (Jennifer Ehle), a former society brat and single mother; and Cameron (Dougray Scott), a roguish artist. One by one, their paths cross over the course of three years, leading to unusual, sad, and even hilarious situations.

Writer/director David Kane tries hard to evoke the spirit of mid-1990s Cool Britannia zeitgeist in this breezy romantic comedy, set in and around London's trendy Camden Lock and bursting with British stars of the future. However, while Catherine McCormack, Douglas Henshall and Dougray Scott deliver spunky, dynamic performances, the episodic script gives them little to work with. Charting three years in the lives of six London dropouts, the film recalls La Ronde with its constant swapping of sexual partners. Sadly, the plot soon becomes yawningly predictable. Kathy Burke's chirpy fat bird and Ian Hart's damaged loner come off best, though Jennifer Ehle beggars belief as a dreadlocked single mother.

Absolutely brilliant film, loved every minute, It's funny, sad, has a great soundtrack & stars Kathy Burke - what more could you want!! Haven't enjoyed a film as much in ages!!!
Kathy Burke is superb and the whole film has a nice tight feel to it. I like the fact that they are never judgemental about the characters, they just place them in front of you and let you make up your own mind. Good film.
