    Originally conceived as a vehicle for Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and John Belushi, this enjoyably indulgent comedy hit the big screen with another Saturday Night Live regular, Martin Short, in place of Belushi, who died in 1982. The leads play stars of silent westerns who end up in Mexico on what they think is a publicity tour, only to discover that they are expected to defend a village from an evil group of bandits. It's nowhere near as funny as it should have been given the talent on show, but the chemistry between the stars and the gentle digs at the western genre make for a diverting enough entertainment.

    good old story!!

    I remember watching this on video 20 years ago! It still has a good sense of family movies with a predictable but very funny story. My 10 year old thought it was hilarious!

    A classic comedy

    Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short, and cast ranging from the infamous El Guapo, to the singing bush come together to make this fantastically fun and funny film. Ostensibly a spoof of the ever-popular western genre, it is much more, drawing in slapstick, a couple of musical numbers and some great cheesy moments. You even get a bit of a vocal lesion thrown in. Educational.

    I’m always amazed when I meet someone who doesn’t think this is one of the funniest films they have ever seen. Still, these people do exist is seems, and it’s not for everyone. It you didn’t laugh at Monty Python, found Father Ted strangely dull or hold up the Police Academy Movies as comedy gold, this might not be for you.

    However, if you like comedies of errors, spoofs, over acting and some great slapstick, this is for you.
