Not so smart
By MacCritic (10 reviews) from Halifax , 30 Nov 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Even a fan of Deanna Durbin will be put off by the dated plotline that is really just an excuse for Durbin to show off her vocal talents regularly. The girls are pretty and the men wear sharp suits, but early on I got annoyed by the girl's relying on everything except brains to get their parents back together. Worth it if you like 30's fashions and as a period piece to show you just how far women's lib has come since then(?).- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)Smart Girls' Film
By Cato (705 reviews) from Lydbury North , 02 Feb 2010My wife really enjoyed this one. It was a good Sunday evening film, and Dianna Durbin made sure I didn't nod off by singing incredibly loudly at times. I'm sure it must have been dubbed on to the film afterwards, nobody could have sung so stridently whilst rowing a boat on a Swiss lake, let alone a fifteen year old girl. Ray Milland, the boyo from the valleys made good, was a good romantic lead, and yes, you could detect the Welsh vowels at times. A good one for the girls, but the outcome was, to say the least, a little unlikely. Still, that's romance for you.- Was this review helpful to you?

If you're smart, you'll give it a miss
By RJNeb2 (922 reviews) from London , 01 Oct 2005Tastes change with the times and unfortunately the opening shots of this contrived domestic comedy of ingénue Durbin operatically warbling away whilst tilling a yacht induce smirks now rather than delight. The rest of the plot fares little better, as Durbin and her 2 sisters contrive to reunite their divorced parents. Hmm, wonder if theyll succeed? A huge success in its day though.- Was this review helpful to you?
