We viewed this series when first made - approx 20 years ago. It's interesting to see how these vintage items stand the test of time, or whether our tastes have moved on.
I like to think that we have matured, but the humour of this series still strikes a chord. The two warring in-laws are the elegant and wonderfully spoken Angela Thorne, and her daughter's working class father-in-law, played Michael Elphick. Both agree to provide baby-sitting services for their only grandchild, and a basement flat goes with the job. Michal Elphick (Sam) states first claim, and when Angela Thorne (Daphne) turns up to take possession, flatly refuses to move. As he fancies her 'something rotten' this is much to his taste; much less to hers, as she thinks him a common yob with peculiar habits.
It's a delight to see actors of such calibre in action. Angela Thorne was previously cast opposite Penelope Keith in 'To the Manor Born' and her talents were largely overshadowed by the larger, louder Penelope. She shows a grea talent for comedy and the series is well worth watching.
