A star narrator, but is the content any good?
By AndyMac84 (1 review) , 05 Sep 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Through the wormhole consists of 8 episodes looking at recent scientific discoveries / theories and is narrated by Morgan Freeman.
The series was originally aired in America in 2010 so some of the theories discussed are a little behind the time. For instance one episode touches on the search for the theoretical Higgs Boson particle. However this particle is no longer theoretical as it was recently recorded by the LHC at CERN. But on the whole the series provides a very informative and entertaining look at some pretty fascinating themes.
Some of the themes covered include black holes, sub atomic particles, origin of the universe, time travel and dark matter. Each episode includes contributions from leading scientists in their fields and the majority of the content is well presented and explained in a simple manner. However it certainly helps if you are already interested in the subject matter as some of the theories such as string theory can be a little abstract and some may find them hard to follow.
The narration provided by Morgan Freeman is as you would expect excellent with his distinctive voice adding real gravitas to the proceedings, however I found some of his anecdotes concerning his childhood etc. a little forced or tacked on but that did not detract from the overall quality of the show. It is also worth mentioning that the graphical representations and visuals are on the whole of a consistently good standard.
Overall I would certainly recommend this series to anyone with an interest in science or anyone who wants to expand their knowledge of the universe or world around us. And should the subsequent 2 series become available I would not hesitate to add them to my rental list.- Was this review helpful to you?

(5)Fascinating Science Series
By Chrisaljack (307 reviews) from Hellingly , 17 Nov 2012Very interesting science documentary series aimed at making some extremely complex subjects understandable to non-scientific minds. To a large extent, it succeeds in its aim, but I have to admit that even though I graduated in science (many years ago), some of the concepts, despite excellent explanations, went above my head on occasions. This does not diminish the fascination of the subjects covered - simply shows how scientific exploration has gone ahead in leaps and bounds over the last few years. Fascinating science series.- Was this review helpful to you?

Fascinating, intelligent, informative,billiant
By StormOrphan (113 reviews) from SUTTON , 21 Oct 2012This is a brilliant documentary series of the highest standards. I admit I saw Morgan Freeman was presenting I thought this would be superficial and without bite but far from it - it's provocative, inspiring, ahead of its time and not afraid to challenge established understanding and does not pander to religious or other sensitivities.
You will learn so much you will be glad you watched this!- Was this review helpful to you?

I really tried to like this but failed.
By PSN: Rookie18 from Outer space , 10 Jan 2012It's got to be good with Morgan Freeman, right? Well not quite. This documentary varies from explaining everything to you as if you were a complete dumb idiot to treating you like a professor. Throw in some very american documentary style (music, weird B movie special effects) and thats about it. You can't beat Morgan Freemans voice though!- Was this review helpful to you?
