Jeanne Tripplehorn and Dylan McDermott star in this romantic comedy, leading separate lives that are destined to intersect. Neil is a standoffish architect and pathological liar looking out for number one, and Gwen's a wistful, incurably romantic ghost writer looking for Mr. Right. She loves her ornate Gothic apartment building; he's been hired to raze it and replace it with postmoderny angular condos. The two stumble through a maze of near-misses and contrived coincidences on the rocky road to romance, surviving the attentions of Nick's current girlfriend, a neurotic former child star played Sarah Jessica Parker. A first feature for director Winant, formerly a producer for television's My So-Called Life, and that show's creator, Winnie Holzman, writes here.

A plotless, pointless mystery film, the sole purpose of which seems to be to promote tourism to Vanuatu, the South Seas island paradise on which it's set. Charisma-free Mark Harmon plays a saxophonist who visits the island at his brother's behest, only to find his sibling has been murdered and Harmon has to solve his death. He finds time to bungee jump with the locals, romance Deborah Unger and tootle a few bluesy tunes on his horn. Not to be confused with Jeanne Triplehorn/Dylan McDermott film of same name, made seven years later — not that that was much better.
Gaudy and charmless romantic comedy; it might have worked with a lighter touch.
This film was kinda dissapointing. It was really nice, emotional and moving in so many ways. It was clevrly constructed with lots of twisting threads from different characters. Something that most films only aspire to. But.... and the big but is.. as you are drawn inexorably through the movie following each thread and making the link to the grand finale when all threads meet the film finishes. All of your build up is simply dropped (like an hours worth of fore play without actaully...you know)... so allthough an hour of foreplay is fun, if your expecting the goods at the end best get ready for a cold shower
Enjoy.
Absolutely dire!!!! Jean Tripplehorn is supposed to be fighting to save her apartments from demolition - but doesn't even move in till nearly half way through the film. By this time I was reaching for the "OFF" button. My advise? Don't waste the rental!!!!!!!
