    [Highly rated reviewer]

I remember the great Alf Garnet from the first showing of this brilliant series but this time began to notice the excellent comedy timing of Dandy Nicholls (The silly moo, Else). If you think this might be to dated, both my sons aged 20 and 14 thought it was hillarious. Cant wait for the second disc to arrive.

  • Warren Mitchell is class

    Rated - 4.0 stars

While the content is dated in terms of class and political struggle, it's the character of Alf Garnett that remains timeless. This is made possible by a superb performance from Warren Mitchell who can easily switch from being the arrogant bigoted Alf into a character that you can feel sorry for and to some extent empathise with. Some very funny moments in this and genuinely not racist - the joke is on Alf and that is very clear in the script. Dandy Nicholls has some excellect one-liners in the role of the long-suffering wife. Tony Booth and Una Stubbs however are simply annoying and seem to confuse acting with shouting. It's clear that they are trying hard not to corpse at Warren's superb comedic performance. An absolute classic.

Excellent, this is so funny, but its not for the politically correct brigade - I personally would love to see these re shown on the TV, but I guess that will never happen in todays climate !
