Director Frank Borzage has a reputation in some circles for being one of the great romantic movie story-tellers, but his actual output is rather patchy, ranging from sublime Janet Gaynor silents such as Seventh Heaven to sentimental tosh such as this routine wartime drama. A French nun (B-movie regular Barbara Britton) helps a flier (a bored-looking Ray Milland) back to Allied lines. Of course, there was a market for films like this at the time, especially in an America untouched by enemy action, and Milland was a big star, but, sadly, this simply isn't very good. Nevertheless, it bears watching as an example of a major star at work, and as a recollection of the period.
Very moderate, nicely photographed, romantic war actioner.
