    tim burton does it again....

i love tim burton films particularly when johnny depp is starring in them, so i could not wait to see this film. i was not disappointed it is amazing. it has a gothic feel to it, but still is witty and has an emotional edge to it. johnny depp is brilliant as the voice of the hapless hero, and the song and dance routines are fabulous.

this is well worth renting out.

    Dead Funny

It is the sign that a filmmaker has truly reached auteur status when his name prefixes the title of the feature. This, his twelfth feature film, everything about Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride is Burton-esque whilst proving remarkably fresh and fun. Arguably better than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory released only a few months ago to massive box office returns.

Corpse Bride tells the macabre tale of Vincent Van Dort (voiced by Burton alumni Johnny Depp) who unwittingly marries a dead lady (voiced by a quirky Helena Bonham-Carter) and his ensuing attempt to escape and get back to his true love (voiced by a very sweet Emily Watson) without hurting the cadaver’s feelings.

The stop motion animation is sublime, with character design that wouldn’t look out of place among Burton’s book of gothic tales, The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy.

Interestingly the look of the film is a reverse of another Burton film, Beetle Juice. Instead of the afterlife being depicted as grey and blue contrasted with the living world being bright and sunny, in Corpse Bride the reverse is true.

On the downside the story is fairly predictable, catering more for a younger audience, but this adds to the familiar nature of the film, seeming more like a gothic fairy tale like Edward Scissorhands or Sleepy Hollow. The four musical numbers in the film are also a let down, with the quieter piano solos performed by the two main characters much more effective.

    Corpse Bride Review

Corpse Bride...doesn't exactly sound like a 'nice' film but you'll be surprised.

Set in a dark and gloomy town, William & Nell Vandort hope their son's arranged marriage to Victoria Everglot will give them extra cash. Their son, Victor butchers his wedding vows at the wedding rehearsal so is therefore sent into the woods in order to practise his vows for the ceremony the next day...

After a mix-up, Victor lands himself with a dead bride! He is faced with a desicion to marry the dead or the living...

Surprisingly, it is a delighting film. Tim Burton has hit the big time, again, with this film!

    this was rubbish

I was so looking forward to seeing this movie, but i'm afraid all that singing and bland story line made it a bland film to watch.

    Superb!

I could spend hours on end telling you about the amazing animation, the dryness of the humour or the fantastic voice acting...I could go on and on about the background details, the incredibly well-developed characters and the quality of the soundtrack....I could probably even ramble on and on about the quality of the script...but I won't. There's no need. Just rent it and watch it yourself, you won't be disappointed. This is an intelligent, dry and mostly touching little film. An animation for adults that some kids will love and others will shy away from...its no more scary than halloween, but if that scares your children keep this one away from them for a couple of years. Sit back, relax and enjoy a trip into Tim Burton's mind for an hour - you won't regret it.

    Tim Burton Shines

Right before we start I should make it clear that I did not like a nightmare before christmas, and I am not Tim Burtons Greatest fan. I went along with a friend who is however and I was very happily surprised. Tim Burtons work does tend to rely on black humour, even his remake of Charlie and the chocolate factory had a more sinister edge than the original. Films of this genre do tend to be shorter in length than full movies, which when you consider the amount of time and efort that goes into them it is not surprising. Old favourites of Burtons such as Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carte are reunited for the voiceovers. All in all this si a tale well told and jolly entertaining. As I cannot imagine many who are not Tim Burton fans seeing this, if you like his previous work then this is for you.

If not then try it you may be pleasantly surprised keep an open mind

    Corpse Bride

A wonderful piece of work from the genius Tim Burton. A dark story about a boy called Vincent who gets the cold feet on his wedding day and then by accident ends up married to a corpse bride.

Some great animation and music. Maybe a Nightmare before Christmas was better but this is still an excellent film. Only 1 hour 17 mins long but in my book thats long enough...if only all films were this long leaving you wanting more instead of dragging on.

Very reasonable but NOT another 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'

I rate The Nightmare Before Christmas as probably Tim Burton's BEST work - memorable, repeatably watchable, great songs, animation and characters; but DISNEY etc., STILL BEWARE the Corpse Bride!

Corpse Bride is VERY good; entertaining, great animation, puppetry etc., but doesn't quite satisfy against such a benchmark as 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' - BUT still a must see for anyone interested in great animation, gothic scenescapes, BURTON, and the excellent skeletons of the dead number in the film...a must see & hear.

No Nightmare before Christmas but worth watching

I liked it but my boyfriend was bored quickly and hes the one who watched cartoons.

I loved the colours especially the corpse bride but the songs weren't really very exciting and i certainly can not reemmber any of them

I would recommend watching just don't expect too much.

    Tim Burton does it again

Tim Burton once again produces a breathtakingly beautiful gothic fairy tale. Fans of Burtons work should not be disappointed (as long as you're not adverse to a love story) and people who enjoy animation or just a well told fairy tale should also enjoy this short story.

The extra's make you appreciate the pain-staking process involved and the passion and dedication that it takes to produce a film in this way.

Once you've finished watching the extras you will want to watch it again just to appreciate it even more.

Although, as some have already said, the storyline is not an original one, it is however an original take on a classic tale and one that could only come from Tim Burton.
