this is the opposite of dumbed down TV. It's intelligent, understated, beautifully acted and brilliantly scripted.

Based on the John Le Carre novel of the same name, this is a faithful adaptation which doesn't insult the intelligence of the viewer by explaining the hard bits as it goes.

This is one of the finest drama series produced by the BBC over the last 30 years. They honestly don't make them like this anymore - Savour it !

  • I hardly dare say it, but its boring

Very disappointing. The acting is of course very good, not only from Alec Guinness, but from a very impressive line up of great actors. Its is, however, tortuously s-l-o-w. I get the impression the script is probably a faithful and full adaptation of the book, which I haven't read, but as such it takes forever to get anywhere. After four episodes which I tried very hard to get into, I gave up. Maybe I'll check out the recent film

Absolutely brilliant. British TV at its best. John le Carre must have been very pleased with this tv adaption of his best novel.

Great old school spy build up. This is how great telly was. Not trying to blow the plot within the first hour to keep you guessing. Superbly acted

Having watched the new film, then read the book, I'm not sure what I was expecting with this TV Series, what a delightful surprise I had, I think its as close to the book as you're likely to get, Sir Alec is brilliant as Smiley. the only question for me is that I've not seen this on TV before, Really think it should be reshown.

Watched this as a child with my Dad and it went right over my head, but always had fond memories of it.

Watched it recently after seeing the Gary Oldman film and loved it.

    Classic TV at it's best!!
