Ponderous deliberationBy Temsreview (36 reviews) from Bristol , 17 Sep 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]For anyone expecting a fast moving, visually spectacular event punctuated with special effects as regurgitated by Hollywood this is not the film for you. For those familiar with the pace of John le carre it is an accurate portrayal of pace with intrigue ponderously unfolding with thoughtly deliberation. A must for a chess player!

Not Rewarding.By bstar (11 reviews) , 07 Dec 2013Not for me. I never read the book and therefore found it very tiring to be paying such a huge amount of attention to it. I felt like I couldn't miss any dialog and so i could not relax. Didn't feel it was very rewarding either. Great story and all the big name actors gave fantastic performances to present the characters. Not for action lovers, it's very tense but just because it's got 'spy' in the title dosen't mean its James Bond.
Brill British Spooks!By Stevo2 (12 reviews) from Elgin , 05 Dec 2013I really liked this one! Normally I watch films while net-surfing, gaming and texting but really early in I realised that this one requires a little more concentration than others (I shamefully have not read the book beforehand which I usually do). I wanted to watch this one at the cinema when it was released but Daisy made us go for the horror instead, which by now I find ideal because this would have been WAY over her head (bless her). So, well done Tomas Alfredson, you have coaxed great performances from some top British actors, this one gets a MUST WATCH from me!
Exceptionally poorBy Chris01625 (1 review) , 01 Dec 2013In comparison to the BBC 1979 adaptation this is a poor comparision. The acting is shoddy and huge important sections of the book missing. Far better to watch Alex Guiness, Beryl Reid, Bernard Hepton, Ian Richardson and Hywel Bennett in the original.
Recommend to watch to see what you thinkBy WhoopAndMoxie (10 reviews) , 22 Nov 2013How silly - is that what they do in spyland ? The original was far more intriguing. Well - I was a bit disappointed with the inconsistencies in this re-make re: the settings and wardrobe or perhaps it wasn't abundantly clear about the era / decade / jumping back n forth in time - also the casting could have been better in my opinion ---- sorry for the moan ---- I was looking forward to the film.
OK, but not the Smiley I remember!By BornAgainFilmFan (2 reviews) , 12 Nov 2013Probably an ok film really, but I found it a bit disappointing in comparison with the book and the excellent BBC TV version years ago.
