Ponderous deliberation
By Temsreview (33 reviews) from Bristol , 17 Sep 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
For anyone expecting a fast moving, visually spectacular event punctuated with special effects as regurgitated by Hollywood this is not the film for you. For those familiar with the pace of John le carre it is an accurate portrayal of pace with intrigue ponderously unfolding with thoughtly deliberation. A must for a chess player!- Was this review helpful to you?

(668)the anti James Bond
By filmamateur (69 reviews) , 16 Jun 2013I always loved the English take on the spies world. Totally opaque in its coded conversation, so dull a life for these antithesis of James Bond, no glamorous dolls, nor cars but so much intrigues and paranoia.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good but BBC adaptation better
By a customer , 14 Jun 2013Well made, the sets are fantastic and I think Oldman's Smiley is better than Guiness's. However give yourself a real treat and watch the original BBC 8 part series. 8 hours long giving the screen the chance to reflect the story in the book.- Was this review helpful to you?

Tension without CGI - who'd have thought!
By loonylinney (66 reviews) , 14 Jun 2013This is a good old-fashioned thriller, slow-moving with simmering tension throughout. Each actor gives brilliant performances - which one is the mole? Will you be able to guess before the end? I didn't. It's great to see Kathy Burke in a serious role too.- Was this review helpful to you?

Like watching Chess
By ASDFG (10 reviews) , 11 Jun 2013Disappointingly slow. Well put together but where was the suspense, urgency, memorable scenes? Waste of a good cast. If you like the slow burning pace of chess you might enjoy this.- Was this review helpful to you?

Britain's silent fight
By MelissaMarabamma (227 reviews) from South Coast UK , 31 May 2013Extremely well made film which I saw in the cinema first time it appeared. It is easy to forget how far left Europe became after the second WWII. This laid the ground for the cold war with unionists proudly singing the Red Flag in England. We were well and truly infiltrated. It took a particular kind of person to sort this out. The kind you do not want to have dinner with twice. Deserved an Oscar.- Was this review helpful to you?
