A classic costume drama about lesbian love in Victorian times. If you can get past laughing out loud at the lead characters fake, deep voice then you will find a ripping good story, which moves from the dance halls to poverty and then back up again. Fundamentally, it's a love story that's well acted and beautifully shot.

In my opinion it is way over-rated because it's hearts in the right place. It's still bad television and poor entertainment.
Apparently the gold makeup was accurate - there was a stage act that used it at the time.
