This worthy drama tells the true story of former soldier Jan C Scruggs, played by Eric Roberts (brother of Julia), who, on his return from Vietnam, set about building a memorial to the troops who died during the conflict. It occasionally lurching into melodrama, but its heart is in the right place, and director Michael Pressman manages to press most of the right emotional buttons. On the downside, Roberts is too mannered in the lead role, and he's given little help by the lightweight support cast.
