A total pleasure.....

When you have a beautifully written and intelligent book which is turned into a beautifully presented and intelligent film you just can't ask for more. Everything about this film is class : the acting, script, set, direction, score .... just everything. A special mention must be made of Gregory Peck who deservedly won an oscar, and the two children who were superb.- Was this review helpful to you?

Thought Provoking

Classic American drama
By paddiwack (13 reviews) from London , 19 Feb 2013I recently read the book in my reading group. I loved it as most members did. Then I was very pleased to see the film. The trio of child actors were unbelievably well directed, especially the actress who played Scout. Apart from the fact that Gregory Peck was far too good looking to play Atticus, he turned in a beautifully nuanced, skilled rendering of the central character. His rapport with the children was impressive and conveyed the dual challenge of parenthood, to provide authority and protection while allowing children to develop their voice and independent views. The film is deeply faithful to the spirit of the novel and still stands as an absolute classic American drama with its heart in exactly the right place.
