NYPD Blue's Rick Schroder turns in a sensitive performance as a recently widowed young man struggling with the demands of caring for his six-year-old daughter and holding down a job. At the insistence of wealthy in-laws Linda Gray and Lawrence Pressman, he agrees to let them raise the child, believing they can give her more. Of course he realises he's made a terrible mistake and tries to prove to his daughter that together they can build a new life. Director Kevin Hooks keeps the histrionics and melodramatic contrivances to a minumum, but the one-note performances of the supporting cast seldom transcend the well-worn formula.
Sentimental non-realism patterned after The Blackboard Jungle but much softer; its influence led to a TV situation comedy, Please Sir.
He did some great films but this to me is one of the best.
Sidney is an engineer to is forced to take a job at a rough London school, (Lulu plays a part as one of the kids). He is a strong teacher and slowly his morals affect the kids and they develop into adults.
It's a heart warming film and entertaining to. It's great to see London in the 60s.
Maybe it was made back in 1967 but it still remains a benchmark of a film for a lot of other simliar films to follow.A raw and gritty peice of film making but overall still manages to come across smooth. Sidney poiters performance should have gave him an oscar that year with a great theme..to sir with love...this movie has something for everyone young or old. If the saying ...they dont make them like that anymore then this is one film that holds that to the truth.rent it from here or better still buy it and stick it up on that shelf with your other classics. .....enough said!!!!!!
