A true gem of British television, with all the dry humour and wit you expect of Penelope Keith.
She seems so at home in this gentrified manner. A good combination of modern life mixing in most un-graciously with the traditional values placed upon a family manor house!
Penelope Keith at her best. All those qualities that are supposed to characterise an 'English Rose' - all be it a formidable one! A voice that would cut crystal yet seductive at the same time. Her underhand flattering and seduction of Richard De Vere is typical of the upper classes' attitude towards new money. 'So vulgar' yet so necessary.
A charming time piece, set in a time when taxes were crippling (40% would seem like a dream then) and where 'changed circumstances' meant more than just a change of address. If you want to understand the concept of old and new money then watch this!
Typical Manor born really.
Lots of subtle jokes and romantic misunderstandings. Nothing to dissapoint here really.
Starting to look dated, the Manor, once beyond most peoples means looks like some banker from Surrey's pile.
great bit if nostalgia, great casting and acting, a real blast from the past, especially for those preople who remember this first time around!!
These disks don't seem dated to me at all. They're just the same, witty, shows that I first saw. If you've not seen them in a while then they're well worth watching again - don't expect anything too high brow, just good fun.

Alas not what I remembered from yesteryear, excelent performance from Penelope Keith and Peter Bowles but no one else came quite near.
Setting nice country scenes and lifestyle although not PC by todays standards.
