Pretentious drivelBy lauranicole83 (8 reviews) , 10 Mar 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]Please, please, please don't waste your time renting or indeed watching this film. It was the biggest pile of pretentious c#&p I've ever had the misfortune to watch. I watch a lot of independent and foreign films, so I'm not someone who just rates the big, action Hollywood films highly, but this was like one giant perfume ad - dialogue includes, 'We are here, yet we are not here', 'open me, discover me'. Awful, awful, awful. Right up there with Cosmopolis as one of the worst, most pointless and mind numbing films I've had to sit through. Ben Affleck displaying an acting talent so wooden he could single-handedly accomplish reforestation of the Amazon. My sister works at an independent cinema, so the only silver lining was that I didn't have to pay to see this load of tripe. If you want a beautifully shot, thought provoking film with fantastic acting, my advice is to give this a miss and try 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' instead.

Quiet and beautifulBy warren2 (1 review) , 09 Dec 2013This film is a great example of real film, the art of showing story through images. Terrence Malik weaves plot, metaphor and imagery together really well, and Olga Kurylenko's performance was amazing. Be warned that this film is neither a rom-com or a mainstream film. Instead it is abstract and different, much like Malik's other film Tree of Life. If your after little dialogue, stunning cinematography and emotive performances then this film is for you.
Rather Watch My Cat SleepBy rohlergirl (5 reviews) , 09 Dec 2013
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideI was waiting and waiting for some non-inner-monologue dialogue (particularly from Affleck) and all I got was a sequence of artistic shots and after a while, wondered why I was persevering with watching what I can only describe as a love poem, for most parts, that goes on for nearly two hours. Boring. I'm all for playing with filmic artistry and lingering, naturalistic shots to set an atmosphere, but this was way too disjointed, dull, and I was so unconnected with the characters I became annoyed with them, and the soundtrack. Affleck looks like he has migraine for most of it. None of this overrated tosh was poignant enough to make me feel anything but numb. There are 'intentionally' depressing, deep films about love and leaving one's homeland that have certainly put more fire in my belly than this one.
Pseudo-intellectual nonsenseBy dociain (14 reviews) from NANTWICH , 08 Dec 2013Beautiful photography, fine soundtrack;not a lot else. Pseudo intellectual nonsense, with no sensible resolution or conclusion. Grossly over-lauded by the so called critics. I would challenge them to give a synopsis of the story, plot, raison d'etre or any thing else relevant!
What on earth ..... is this all about??By a customer , 03 Dec 2013Total nonsense-trying to be intellectual and failing! Cannot believe these serious actors took part in this film at all. Total drivel!
