(26)Boring and slow
By hellonearth (4 reviews) , 19 Jan 2012I would never play this game. It is unresponsive and very slow whilst moving around. The game isnt that bad graphics but that is it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Crippled classic
By pyromantis (99 reviews) from Nottingham , 19 Mar 2011If I had a quid for every time someone told me GRAW was the one... I'd be typing this on a golden computer. After putting it off for years I've finally played it, and I have to say I really don't see what all the fuss is about.
now I've heard all the 'it was awesome at the time' and 'it was an early 360 title' arguments and for me they just don't fly. Gears of War was an early 360 title and it still owns to this day.
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter deals with a squad of super-tech soldiers a few decades in the future. Stomping around an unnamed Middle Eastern state (of course), they have to do something and save something... to be honest the plot was so boring I lost interest.
The gameplay is the clincher though. The control is so badly thought out, it seems to be fashioned to make the game harder. Something as simple as taking cover can involve three separate button presses, and all in the heat of battle. Targets are most likely so far away you can barely see them, so you spend most of your time squeezing bursts of rifle fire at red diamonds. The tech on show is mildly interesting, although much of the time it only serves to get in your way and confuse matters.
Enemy AI ranges from pin sharp to sheep dumb, usually staying in those extremes. Some soldiers will allow me to get close enough to see their dandruff before bothering to fire on me, while others will spot me from miles away before my super-advanced tech has even detected them.
Mission objectives are scattered and vague. 'Get here' is a common one, tasking you with figuring out the abysmal 3D map thing and making a route that won't get you killed. One wrong move and you're dead in an instant, realism apparently being the order of the day. But it's so awkward to position yourself and your men properly chances are you'll go down without even knowing why and have to sit through the tediously long loading times only to have to run back to the same place you got shot and get shot again just to figure out where the fire is coming from. It's ridiculous and put me off right away.
I suppose GRAW made some advances that informed later, better games. And maybe if I'd bought it when it came out I'd be enamoured with it like everyone else seems to be. Simple fact is, I found it flawed and achingly slow. If you like edging through bland cities while being shot by unseen assailants, sneaking through pitch black forests only to be seen by soldiers with their backs to you and being put up against a tank with nothing but an assault rifle, you love GRAW. If not, then I doubt you'll enjoy this massively overhyped shooter.- Was this review helpful to you?

Mixed
By OCallaghan (1 review) from Wigan , 17 Jun 2008This game has some features that put it in a league of its own but its nothing special. if you want a good shoot em' up, i suggest you order Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare.- Was this review helpful to you?
