    A Superb and rewarding adaptation

The BBC has done it again, this is another adaptation to rank with its finest. TOM JONES is intricate, daring, surprising and very funny. Max Beesley achieves the mix of innocence, good-heartedness, looks and sensuality that Tom must have. Brian Blessed is a revelation as Squire Western, looking more like a Hogarth caricature than seems humanly possible and the rest of the superb hand-picked supporting cast is faultless and each perfectly suited to their roles. For me this version of Henry Fielding's classic tale surpasses Tony Richardson’s Best Picture Oscar-winner of 1963. I loved it so much; I went straight out and bought the DVD to add to my collection. Yes, it runs for 5 hours, but don’t be put off by that as there’s never a dull moment in this hugely enjoyable production.

    Excellent Adaptation

Great cast and great acting. The narrator is somewhat annoying at times but i really enjoyed the series.

They even have the excellent Kathy Burke as a ladies maid. A very funny adaptation.

With a decent budget it seems, this is recommended viewing for all who love period dramas.

On a different note you do see full frontal nudity from Max Beesley (Tom Jones) and one of the posh ladies (can't remember the name) so maybe not for the kids. But it is only brief.
